My friend’s wedding…
One of my best friends, Clara, is getting married in like 3 weeks. I’d love - LOVE - to go to her wedding, and I was invited.
Problem? It’s in Cabo. She’s from Mexico, and most of her family lives there… and she’s been planning the wedding for a while now. She’s actually technically already married, but very few people know that. It’s kind of a weird situation, but they got married so she’d qualify for US tuition prices… but a big formal wedding wasn’t in the budget at the time (probably because her engagement ring put him back $10,000 - just for the stone! And no, it’s not that big, either). Anyway, she’s finished school and they’re getting married in grand style. They are honeymooning in Bora Bora, too.
It’s crazy.
So I’d love to go, but we’re not. For many reasons… 1) airfare to Cabo isn’t cheap, and since I need two seats… and we just bought the house, so even if I didn’t, our budget is tight. 2) I don’t know anyone else who will be there, as far as I am aware. In fact, I’ve never even met her fiance (er, husband?) Sean. Clara and I went to school together and she never met my husband and I never met hers… she didn’t live in NYC and we never had a chance to get together as couples. Which I always thought was a good thing, because I just had this feeling I wouldn’t really like Sean…
Anyway, I’m conflicted… Clara’s got amazing style and taste. Her invitations were the most elegant, classic - and yet still hip - invites I’ve ever seen. I know she’ll look amazing and the wedding will be great… and the entree is filet mignon and lobster, yum.
But, I know it’s not feasible for us to go, and overall I don’t regret it. I’m sure she’ll be super busy and not able to spend a lot of time with any one person (isn’t that how “normal” weddings are?). But it sounds like a hell of a party!!!
