Fishing port

Unloading and provisioning operations

Back

The ocean going fresh fish vessels discharge their load at the advance base (Scotland), or at the Loubet Basin in the port of Boulogne.More often than not the fish is packaged in closed plastic containers filled with ice which are then dispatched to the refrigerated fish market from where they will be taken away by buyers.

Loubet Basin
Unloading of fish

The unloading of fish caught by coastal fishing vessels is undertaken by mariners. The fish is packaged on board into iced filled containers, and, if not already done aboard the vessel, closed and weighed upon landing.

The small fishing boats unload all along the 'quai Gambetta' where the fish is sold directly to consumers from stalls, or eventually delivered to the trawler's agent and sold to fish wholesalers.

Sales on the quai Gambetta

Before returning to sea the vessels stock up with diesel, water, clean containers, motor oil and food. In the case of local trawlers this is done at 'quai Nord' in the Loubet Basin.
